Secrets of making Homemade Yogurt successfully

Since living in India, I have learnt alot about the benefit of yogurt or curd as they called it here!I don’t have to tell you about the health benefits of adding yogurt in your daily meals! Nowaday, anyone can find numerous recipes about how to use yogurt in our cooking.                                                                                                                                                                                              Since Yogurt is so beneficial for us, don’t you want to know how to make it at home? It is very inexpensive (only the cost of milk! ) and easy to make! Most importantly, no sugar, no preservatives!! Hooray!                                                                                            Why I say successfully?  That’s becuase I tried it and failed many times before I accidentally discover this SURE way to make  yogurt successfully!! Well, not my Indian friends’ faults, they have been making yogurt so many times that they forget that weather and environment condition can make a difference! So watch out for the KEY TIPS below!

WHAT YOU NEED?

  • 1 Litre of Fresh Milk
  • 4 tablespoons of PLAIN yogurt (to start)
  • a container (preferrably a ceramic one. If you use plastic container, make sure it does not melt in heated appliances.)                                                                                                                    STEPS:
    1. Boil the litre of milk over small heat for about 15 mins until it boils. (be careful not to let it boil over!)
    2. Let the hot milk COOL DOWN until it is about LUKEWARM
    3. Pour the lukewarm milk into a ceramic container.
    4. Stir the 4 tablespoons of PLAIN yogurt gently, to break any lumps and POUR it into the LUKEWARM milk in container.
    5. Heat your oven or microwave for about 5 mins to create a warm environment. SWITCHED it off!
    6. KEY TIPS: Place the container of mixture into the WARM appliances for about 3 to 4 hours, or until it solidify into yogurt.
    7. Refrigerate your fresh Yogurt and always REMEMBER to save about 4 tablespoons for making the next patch of yogurt!
